Shopping

When it comes to shopping in Singapore, there’s only one place that springs to mind: Orchard Road. It is akin to Oxford Street in London or the Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. All the major shopping centres are found there, from Takashimaya to Isetan and Paragon. To get there, you can alight from any of the three Underground stops: Orchard, Somerset or Dhoby Ghaut.

The Great Singapore Sale is yearly event and there’s absolutely no excuse for missing it. There’s loads of seriously good bargains and offers and all the shops in Orchard Road are involved. Branded products are discounted by up to 40%. The Sale starts in July and usually lasts 3-4 weeks.

If you fancy a bit more local stuff, then check out Serangoon Road whose neighbouring pavements are presently a bustling hive of truly exotic sounds and intriguing aromas. At these local shops, you can buy virtually anything Indian, from handicrafts to flower garlands and peacock feathers. Glittering saris, cooking utensils and local jewellery are particularly great buys.
